Mariachiara Leteo

I have always been in love with books and I have particularly fond memories of reading by the sea. Having studied literature all my life, I now do research in comparative literature and teach English and Italian. Research can go very deep, yet there is something about reading that quite often escapes its nets, somewhere at the crossing between the words on the page and the flickering of our emotions and experiences, as the imagination finally wanders and allows itself to be caught. Seashore Essays seeks to capture this aspect by taking dips into my readings and studies as they mingle with other flashes of life. So there will be books, of course, but also various thoughts, as the coastline twists, stories, and casual sights.

I warmly thank Annaluisa Cameli for letting me use her beautiful watercolours as illustrations.
